Impressions from Norway

As promised I will post some of my Norway pictures. Today I want to start with some more hobby related pictures which gave me some nice ideas for bases/weathering and an idea how stuff "grows" in reality.
So without anymore babble I let the pictures speak. "A picture tells more than 1000 words", right?

Earth, Stones and Trees

Some impressions from our first hiking trip. Liked how the area looked, a bit "highland" feeling.

Ice | Nigardsbreen

Some impressions from Nigardsbreen. After we did a small hiking trip to one of the arms in the neighborhood, we decided to go to the big one which is one of the biggest attractions in Jostedal. We booked a short guided tour and therefore I could take some nice pictures from the glaciertongue itself. We didn't climb up too far, but it was very impressive. Next time a bigger blue ice tour ;)

Weathered truck in swampland

One nice thing I stumbled upon when we did our last hiking trip was this rusted truck. It was nearly reoccupied by nature and was really cool.

That's it for today. If you liked it please say so in the comments, I can post some more pictures of Norway if you like. For example on our canoe trip one part looked a bit like the place where the hobbits paddled through ;)

FFotW - Miniature Tokyo

FFotW - Mori Tower Scale Project Welcome to another Friday Finding of the Week. Ok, in Germany its already Saturday but better late than never. For today I found a really awesome modell of Tokyo the "Mori Tower Scale Project" (on Flickr). The model was built in about 17 months be 30 employees. "Patience is everything" on of the project leaders said.  On the first pictures I saw I  thought these were some minified real pictures like they are hip at the moment in advertisements. But no, all miniatures.

Inspirational music: Space Oddity

The classical single "Space Oddity" from David Bowie in a completely new interpretation from Chris Hadfield. The video was shot on the ISS and is pretty awesome (and going viral like hell).

Enjoy!

Autumnal impressions

Not long ago I went to the "Europa-Park" the biggest funpark in germany because every year they have a nice halloween decoration. This time I was really lucky, because we had most of the time excellent weather which allowed me to shoot some nice Light/Shadow pictures (and some funny stuff too). Even the Eurosat, a big dome in which a rollercoaster is settled is decorated fitting to halloween.

Eurosat as big pumpkin
This is Halloween, this is Halloween,
pumpkins scream in the dead of night
It was a funny day and after we returned home, the view from our kitchen granted me another (spooky) view:

Foggy view out of my kitchen
If I only could paint somethink like that!

Some more picture heavy stuff after the break!

Inspirational Stuff (again)

Hey there, as so often in the last time I just have some inspirational stuff to post. My health and my working life (or the balance I still or again have to find between them) just keep me away from painting or the hobby itseld. But as I browsed through the web, I found some great stuff I think you should know about :)

Ever heard of Julio Cabos? Me not until I found an old PDF and a video on Youtube which were a real mind opener to some stuff I was thinking about.

The PDF is called "Painting with Julio Cabos" but it seems it is taken down by Andrea Miniatures (or my browser just refuses to open the link Google spits out). Archive.org is a nice helper there, so perhaps you can try your luck there!

Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Inspirational music

Again something I listen to while painting/building. With this score I can close my eyes and drift to other realms, imagine kingdoms far away and get some inspiration from my own visions. Screwed up, isn't it?

Youtube-Channels you should know

Since I am waiting and waiting for my airbrush and am not motivated to paint at the moment I thought of listing some of the great Youtube-Channels I found and watch on a regular base.

Airbrush Miniature Painting

AwesomePaintJob - Les has a great way of doing things with his airbrush
Buypainted - Also one great airbrush artist, if not one of the best at the moment

General Miniature Painting

Girlpainting - Alexandra has some great tutorials of her style to paint miniatures
MrWatchingpaintdry - Great step by step tutorials including choice for colors

Terrainmaking

Terranscapes - Really great stuff for terrain makers

The list is far from complete and I think I will add some more in the future.

Hope you enjoy it

Emotional commercial

Some time ago I saw a really emotional and surprising commercial in tv. A few minutes ago I saw it again on Youtube and again I am just flashed by it. So it seems to be obvious that I should share it to you.
Since it is in german, let the emotions do the work. I think the message is understandable for everybody.

Enjoy your day and be open for anyone.

Inspirational music

Perhaps you know the film "Ghost in the Shell" which is based on the mangas from Masamune Shirow. If not: Its definitly worth looking if you are interested in SciFi and/or animes. But whats really outstanding is the soundtrack of the movies and the series. So just pump up the volume and enjoy the musical landscape Kenji Kawai is producing:

Lucky strike - Sites you find by chance

Today I stumbled across a page that i didn't expect in the search result of my preferred search engine. I researched some pictures for a terrain project of mine and Surprise! see what I found here (be warned the page is in german). The guys there (whoever they are) show some nice terrain pieces for fantasy wargaming on their page and even have some minor advices how they build them.

Inspirational basing tutorials

By chance I found on Youtube the channel of Buypainted. As it seems they run a painting commision studio, but I found interesting that they have a whole bunch of great tutorial videos hosted on Youtube.
Apart from the standard "how do I paint model XYZ" I really liked the "how do I make themed bases" series. So I thought: "Why not share with everyone?". And here it is:

I hope you like them as I do.

Stay tuned and enjoy your time.

Some great music to listen to while painting:

One voice and one violin. Great cover from the game Skyrim.
